Take Action: Stop the Japanese Dolphin Hunt
From October to April, Japanese fishermen killed more than 20,000 dolphins and porpoises as part of theirannual hunt. Officials claim the slaughter is a form of "pest control" to offset the amount of fish the dolphins eat. But, the reality is, the butchered dolphins are sold off to supermarkets and grocery stores.

Japanese fishermen have admitted that they are worried the government will soon shut them down in
light of international outrage over the hunt.
Stop the slaughter.

Demand Jail Time for Dolphin Bomber Garry Alvin Key of Panama City, Fla., recently pleaded guilty to a two-count federal indictment for throwing homemade pipe bombs at dolphins to scare the animals away from fishing lines.

Although Key's actions are reprehensible, they unfortunately are most likely not uncommon. Accusations abound of fishers who use violent and illegal methods of dealing with dolphins, sea lions, and other sea animals. Key is scheduled for sentencing on March 25. His case calls for the stiffest penalty possible, as it will serve not only as punishment for Key's cruel actions but also as a deterrent to others who would perpetrate similar atrocities against wildlife. Please send a letter urging Judge Smoak to impose the maximum sentence possible on Mr. Key.
